Benefits of Compact Fluorescent Bulbs
If you attended
the 2007 Pennyrile Electric Annual Meeting, you
probably received a bucket containing two
compact florescent light bulbs (CFL’s).
We have
had a great response from our members who use CFL’s. CFL’s use a fraction of the energy that
it takes for a standard incandescent bulb and
they last up to 10 times longer. Most of us are
always looking for a way to save more money.
Using CFL’s is one way to save money, while
saving energy.
One quick fact found on
www.energystar.gov is that if every home in
America replaced just one incandescent light
bulb with an ENERGY STAR qualified CFL, it would
save enough energy to light more than 3 million
homes and prevent greenhouse emissions
equivalent to those of more than 800,000 cars
annually.
As new technology develops, it is important that
we educate ourselves on new ways to conserve
energy. However, with new technology, there are
always questions and concerns that arise. There
are many different types of CFL’s available.
Depending on the one you buy, the color, light
output and quality of the bulb may vary among
brands. There are certain places CFL’s should
not be used. Many have questions on the proper
way to dispose of a spent CFL. To find answers
to your questions concerning CFL’s, here are a
few websites that may help:
