Pennyrile Rural Electric Cooperative Corporation offers a program to its members called Trade-A-Tree.  PRECC will cut a tree that has grown into the distribution power lines (doesn't include secondary or service line to home) and plant a flowering ornamental tree with the permission of the member.  The new tree should not interfere with the power lines.

Guidelines

  1. When a member agrees to the trade-a-tree program, an agreement will be signed.  PRECC will then cut and remove the old tree; however, stump removal is the responsibility of the member.  The replacement tree will only be planted certain times of the year, approximately November 1 thru May 1, to assure the best possible planting conditions.

  2. The replacement tree will be planted in the general vicinity of the cut tree.

  3. The tree will be guaranteed to be alive and produce leaves the spring after planting, provided the tree has been cared for properly.  The tree then becomes the responsibility of the member.

  4. Members may choose one of the following types of trees:

    • Pink Dogwood

    • Redbud

    • White Dogwood

    • Purple-Leaf Plum

    • Crab Apple

    • Dwarf Fruit Tree

  5. PRECC will choose the nursery to provide the trees and planting.  This selection will be based upon price and quality of the product and service.

  6. PRECC will provide a tree for each tree cut if it is located in a yard.  For trees along a pasture or field, PRECC will provide one tree for every five to six cut.
