What is the Counseling Committee?

In 1981, the Pennyrile Rural Electric Board of Directors organized a grassroots group called the Pennyrile RECC Counseling Committee.  Since that time over 700 people have served on this committee, and they have played a very important role in the growth and development of Pennyrile.

The purpose of this committee is to give the Board of Directors and Management a broader insight into the needs of the member-owner, and to provide channels by which “first-hand” information, relating to the cooperative, can be carried back into the communities of the Pennyrile service area.

Each member of this committee serves a two-year term, with 16 members rotating off each year.

The knowledge and concerns shared by the counseling committee members over the years have been invaluable to this organization.  It has given us an opportunity to discuss new plans and programs with them, before they are put into place.  This group, more than any other, has helped the management and board members see the need to change our business to meet the needs of the members we serve.

Through this committee, six of our eight directors were introduced to this organization as they also served as counseling committee members prior to serving on the board.
